Saturday, April 23, 2011 - I tasted this wine over a 3 hour period after decanting. Initially, it was closed but was clear, deep purple and it's nose was rather pronounced. It had aromas of earth, wet leaves and tar with a hint of dark chocolate. It had flavors of strawberry, earth, tar and even leather. It had a rather long finish, quite tannic and a hint of orange. It clearly needed more time. I found it much more approachable after 2 hours. It was very good with a mild cheddar cheese. The finish was quite long and was very good after 2 1/2 hours. The flavors were more integrated after decanting. I would guess that an hour of decanting is necessary at this age of the wine. Very nice wine.
