Tuesday, June 7, 2011 - Color: black cherry, not entirely opaque. Nose: cassis and cream. Taste: mashup of a boston cream donut on the attack, followed by increasing spicy gamey notes and black cherry/plum/cassis notes. Decent length (although fruit fades before oak). The varietals are interesting, Cab Sauv 35%, Petit Verdot 24%, Cab Franc 23%, Merlot 13%, Malbec 5%. Is Texas going to be a petit verdot hot spot??? Anyways, a little too much oak for my taste and a little disjointed, but good complexity and good length for a $13 bottle of wine. Will be interesting to follow this as it matures.
