Saturday, July 2, 2011 - Dinner at the Wild Poet's (HM's place): This was surprisingly drinkable for such a young Brunello. Still though, it was good, very correct, without being quite exciting. I would really leave these aside for sometime to develop a bit more complexity. It had a nice, if rather reserved the nose, with a nice dose of stone ane metal mineral scents, aromas of sweet dark cherries, some dried earth, a bit of rust. Tight at first, but it was opening up all the time. The palate had a rich juiciness to it that made me think modern BdM almost from the get go, with sweet, ripe but really fresh and bright, almost crystallined flavours of black cherries and berries. This had a nice ring of clarity to it. The finish was quite decent too, with some earthy notes drifting into the distance. Still primary I thought, but very open, very giving for such a young wine. Another decade and this should be very interesting indeed.
