79 Points

Wednesday, September 28, 2011 - This wine confuses the hell out of me. When I first bought and opened it, it tasted exactly like a grape jolly rancher. The only problem was that it was SOURER than a normal jolly rancher. My hopes are not usually super high for red wines from North Carolina, but this was beyond terrible (although pretty interesting). I would probably rate this wine as a 60 up to 70 if you really like jolly ranchers (I'm not used to rating anything below 80, so take what you will from this review).
After letting this sit open with the original natural cork for 3 days, the sourness is still present, but settles into the background a little bit. Now there's a gamey/jerky component and it tastes like someone tried to cover up the jolly rancher flavor with currant juice from the asian store. Now, I'm thinking I could rate this wine around 82. For $9, I might buy it again...I don't know.
The blend breakdown is 62% Chambourcin 38% Cynthiana
