Friday, October 28, 2011 - I remain mixed on the RM wines, but from my limited experience it seems I'm partial to the Summa bottlings, with the others not quite what I'm looking for. Most of the bottles I've tried have a bit of a sweet fruit rollup quality, whereas the 2007 Summa and now this 2008 Summa OV are more restrained and, while deep and concentrated, avoid the somewhat cloying character of the rest of the lineup. Pop 'n pour and followed over the course of several hours, this possesses a deep-pitched character, and good focus, though I'd like a bit more energy. I can see where people get some citrus from this wine, though I might not have found it without the suggestion; the acid is more than adequate, though not in any way too much. Next day this has come on nicely. An intoxicating aroma with deep fruit, spice, and just a touch of vanilla, while the palate remains focused with deep red fruit.
