Decanted for sediment just prior to drinking. Rich, ripe shiraz; pure and dense but not gloopy or artificial; it smells of blackcurrants, plums, liquorice, chocolate. Finely graduated tannins of medium weight, unobtrusive acid, and medium-full bodied weight all combine in a great vinous package. Does pick up a quasi-jammy sweetness as it sits in the glass. Astounding finish of great length and balance, dry yet sweetly-fruited; a grand testament to the greatness of the 96 vintage. This ought to improve for another 15 years at least, and be drinkable for 30, I reckon. Decent-looking cork did the job well enough. A great wine.
