Tuesday, December 20, 2011 - The fill was well into the neck and the cork was sound; decanted and consumed with dinner. A lovely purple-ruby core, turning to blood red at the rim. A generous bouquet that was intense and complex, with scents of black truffle, fennel, cedary dark fruits and a hint of flower. Medium bodied, with a much more opulent and velvety mouthfeel than previous bottles, but with that "classic" grip and structure that is so common to the top wines of the '88 vintage. This wine really seems to be in a special place at the moment, and pristinely stored bottles should provide a wonderful experience.
