Thursday, February 23, 2012 - Gave this 90 mins in the decanter before re-bottling & taking out to dinner.
I loved the profile of this wine. Good brown & Asian spices, but not candied cola. Floral & tea on the nose, along with plenty of dark fruits & red fruits. Tasting focuses on those red & dark red fruits (cranberry, black raspberry) that show lots of class. Notes of spice, citrus zest, and a broad-shouldered yet elegant feel add great character. I feared the finish would be tart, given the cranberry & citrus notes, but it's completely smooth. Leads to great length lead by warm baking spices (nutmeg, cinnamon hints).
Paired well with duck & multiple preparations of lamb, then stretched well with cheese & chocolate too. As others have mentioned, there's likely some upside here--will wait a few years 'til the next one.
