Wednesday, May 2, 2012 - We had the 1986, 1996 and 2006 together, three decades of LB! The 2006 was very sweet on the nose, almost Rhone-like and without the typical cassis, cedar, lead pencil and green pepper. More primary fruit and almost international in style. The 1996 was the best wine at this time. Totally classic nose of cedar, black currant and sweet pipe tobacco. Medium body with an elegant structure, very good balance and long finish. Probably peaking, but will remain at this plateau for 10+ years. The 1986 had one more layer on the nose compared to 1996 with coffee and some earhty element, but lacked a bit fruit, or rather the fruit was still compressed by the tannins. No signs of oxidization or tiredness, so this one will certainly live for 10-20 years more, and if the fruit holds up, it might be more balanced once the last tannins melt away.
