Thursday, July 26, 2012 - Oh boy. Carpenter's delight. When I first opened this it was the most overoaked wine I have ever had. Undrinkable. Several hours into the evening the oak had pulled back a little and while this was more approachable none of my guests was drinking this. With more than half the bottle left, thankfully this was much better on the second night. The oak was more of a background to a nice round palate of white fruits at the forefront. Good balance and decent acidity which felt like it had lost some of its bite overnight.. Honestly, I felt like some high quality fruit was mishandled here and with proper use of oak this could have been truly spectacular. If the oak gets absorbed in the next five years this could turn out better, but somehow I doubt it. Not bad at closeout for $15, but I would be pissed had I paid full retail.
