Wednesday, October 26, 2011 - The Reserva shows a similar profile to the Crianza tasted right before, however with minute differences. The color of the wine is the same, a dense dark central core that is slightly translucent with a dark red to purple rim. The nose is a bit more focused and intense, with licorice, incense, Indian spices, cloves, violets, espresso, roasted meat, smoke, burnt earth, roasted red peppers, and crushed stones. The flavors on the palate show dark plums, blackberries, and a small touch of anise on the attack. On the mid-palate there are notes of dark chocolate, roasted coffee, smoked meats, and tangy minerality giving way seamlessly to an intense finish filled with dark berries, Indian spices, and savory roasted red peppers, accompanied by chewy tannins. In terms of flavor the Reserva is slightly more subdued than the Crianza, however the major difference is the precision and cleanliness of flavors. The textural experience of the wine is also different, the Reserva has more depth and weight as well as a smoother finish with regards to the tannins.
