Tuesday, October 30, 2012 - Delicious, affirming the standing of Bologna as a major innovator of Barbera. From a magnum purchased in Europe. The label was not great and the capsule showed very slight signs of seepage -- it was stuck to the cork. I used an ah so opener and the cork was intact but had absorbed a lot of wine. However, there were no indications of damage or oxidation to the wine. In fact, it showed very young, with less acid than most Barbera, and with only lingering notes of barrique. Otherwise, it was loaded with sour cherry and bright fruit that had deepened with age. Not a great wine in the sense of a top tier Barolo, but never meant to be. A fabulous example of its type, and worth seeking out if well stored bottles can be found.
