Monday, January 14, 2013 - 2003 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Tasting with GMS ringers from other countries (Rich & Peggy's House, Los Altos, CA): Color is a little bit more translucent than the other wines in today's lineup. Wow! What a nose!! Kirsch, spices, mushrooms, forest floor, some (good) brett. Palate is equally impressive, rich, without being too concentrated or overpowering. Well integrated tannins. Very long finish. Drinking surprisingly well right now and seems to have many more years ahead. Definitely my style of wine! Tasted blind and correctly guessed as the Clos du Pape in the line-up. Surprisingly not the group's favorite (in my personal opinion); I suspect that some may have been offended by the little bit of brett...
My #1, Group's #4 (73 pts).
