Thursday, January 17, 2013 - I had a bottle of this wonderful champagne for the first time last week. In fact, it was so good that I just couldn't resist cracking another bottle. Once again the 2002 Comtes demonstrated why it is so special. Not only did it have beautiful precision and delicacy, but its flavors of white flowers, light cream, oranges, tangerines, citrus, spices, nuts, and minerals showed an incredible level of detail for such an obviously young champagne. In addition, this champagne felt nearly weightless, which is an incredible accomplishment for Taittinger. This will turn into something special with an additional 10 years of bottle age. Who knows, it could eventually turn out to be better than the stellar 1995 and 1996 duo.
