Saturday, February 9, 2013 - Bottle and fill excellent, cork very wet, but solid without seepage. A lighter colored wine initially, it looked a bit like an old barolo and the first taste was somewhat tight and attenuated. I might have guessed nebbiolo initially given its structure and reticence. This wine really fills out over 2 hours in the decater becoming dark garnet and putting on weight (much like an old barolo). Fine nose of blackberry, bandaids and earth - sort of Grave like (and barolo). There is impressive structure here and the wine has an edge, but nothing that a roasted leg of lamb won't tame. This bottle really shows the strength of the 1953 vintage.
