Monday, May 27, 2013 - Medium ruby in color. Smells of sous bois and old leather. This needs to be open for an hour before it shows what it has. My perception of Vieux Telegraphe is that it generally takes longer to mature than most other Chateauneufs. When young it is fairly hard and muted. With age, they finally come around, but it takes awhile. This tastes of subdued grenache/cherry fruit, garrigue, lavender and leather. Acids are becoming soft and the tannins are still present. To me this bottle is just ok. Not great even after 3 hours of air. This just doesn't measure up compared to the 2003 Pegau Reservee we had just the other night.
