Friday, May 31, 2013 - Only slightly familiar with olderish rioja, but a very nice wine. Incredible how similar tempranillo is to pinot. More like a spicy heavier pinot. Red fruits, some earthiness, but overall very good.

Interesting that Pinot Noir vs. Tempranillo comparation.
Although I have to reconize that sometimes they share similar elegance and texture, Castillo de Ygay is blended, usually with Graciano and Mazuelo so quite different in composition.
Anyway I think that it is like Bordeaux, sometimes it tastes and smell like Burgundian wine, specially when it has been ageing gracefully.
Cheers!
