Friday, April 11, 2014 - Medium crimson color. Nose is a mix of smoky and woodsy notes, with a faint hint of berries. The palate is dominated by flavors of ash and slate, again with the fruit being quite subtle. The palate is smooth and the tannins have softened and integrated. This is made in an elegant and linear style. Tasted blind, I would not have guessed California, or even New World. Rather, this seems like a properly-aged old style Rioja, or one of the more accessible wines from St. Emilion. It is unlikely to improve much, but is drinking gracefully right now.
