Friday, July 13, 2007 - Lafon Rochet and Lafite have a distinctive deep ruby color with a tinge of purple, it's a very beautiful northern Medoc color of nature that I'm not sure I quite see in any other wine from other regions, even from a mile down the road in the Medoc, where the color seems to turn more dense and purple. I hadn't had the 1996 Lafon Rochet in at least a couple years, and it seems to be progressing along nicely. While it it showing considerably more than the last time I had it, the '96 Lafon Rochet still needs more time. It is defined by its raspberry, earthy notes, with a lovely bouquet of cedar. Quite rustic, it matched well with a thick porterhouse. We'll be enjoying this wine for the next twenty years. Rating: 91 points.
