Thursday, May 15, 2014 - Brooding, black color. Expressive bouquet of oak, anise, wood, black cherries, balsam, dill... verging on garish. The palate is more restrained, with excellent brightness, sweet'n'sour cherries (very tempranillo in profile), and a lithe mouthfeel, but there's still lots of oak imparting rough, drying tannins and vanilla flavors. A bit foursquare at the moment, but overall this is drinking well, wide open texturally and aromatically. Still, I would like to see if more time in the cellar helps it to develop more nuance and integrate all that wood. This could be really good, but why so much new oak? I ask myself that with Spanish wines a lot these days. 88-89 pts+?
