Saturday, May 31, 2014 - Decanted 1st half of bottle for 3 hours on day one and for 2 hours for rest of bottle on day 2. Both experiences were quite similar and quite delightful. Good, clean fruit on the palate with a long finish. There were subtle hints of green pepper, but did not really distract from overall impression. Nose showed extremely well with notes of chocolate, smoke, tobacco, and ripe fruit. I had occasion to partake of a 2000 Bordeaux tasting a few days earlier. This wine would have placed in the middle of the pack; beating out the Chateau Angelus, but being nipped by the Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou and the Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux. A couple of days after this bottle I tasted Chateau Rouget and Chateau Siran. The Rouget gives the Brane-Cantenac a run for its money, but Brane still comes out on top of these 3. The Siran was a bit disappointing, although not a bad wine.
