Saturday, February 7, 2015 - In 1984, Gilbert Gruet of the French Champagne house Gruet & Fils made a bold choice to plant Chardonnay and Pinot Noir near Albuquerque, New Mexico. High vineyards at 4,300 feet meant cool nights for his experiment and a long growing season. In 1987 he was able to achieve his first production using the traditional French "Methode Champenoise" and the rest is history. Focused and richly styled sparkling wine. On the palate, green apples and cream with a toasty finish with subtle hints of brioche/yeast flavors lurking in the background. A great buy by at $12
