Saturday, February 21, 2015 - Character of a mid-range Bordeaux one year away from perfect drinking point. We let it breathe, but on sampling decided not to decant. Dark appearance, earthy cellar smell of fruit, taste of brambly black fruit. Medium finish, we did the entire bottle, it was that good. For the $22 we paid for what is a 100% Cab Franc, we were pretty pleased...have three bottles left. The Cab Franc had a little tannin and seemed drier than mostly Merlot-based Bordeaux...yes, I know this is not Bordeaux, but it is next door. Plan to explore other Chinons. Welcome any comments or advice as this is a new wine area for us. Another bottle on May 25, 2015 and it is still a little tight. Hold until 2016.
