Sunday, March 29, 2015 - 25 years of the Cathiards at Smith Haut Lafitte: all magnum verticals (Château Smith Haut Lafitte): This reminds me of the 2001, with structure yet freshness. Not as opulent as the 2000, which has turned out to be excellent in its invitational exuberance. There is a seriousness to the tannins here that reassures, that this wine need time yet to be fully ready to drink.

This is Marc Frontario, I remember fondly when I first tasted the '01...haunted by it ever since...thinking about it's gorgeous stone, earth, slate and gravel delivery...then a few years back I was at Robert Alfert's house when he popped the '04 and I was smitten...immediately I was taken back to thoughts of the '01....both r right in my wheelhouse...great wines...'04 SHL (Bordeaux Wine Enthusiasts WOTY) a couple years back (of course I was lobbying hard for it!!) Lol....cheers
