Sunday, July 26, 2015 - The sum of its parts is lighter and fresher than one would expect from a red from deep southern Italy. It is clear ruby with a hint of garnet on the rim. Medium intensity. The nose has some organic earthiness, red plum, black cherry. The palate is dry, with medium (+) alcohol at 14%, medium acidity, medium (+) tannins and medium (+) minerality, which the Italians would call "sapidity." The palate is consistent with the nose with some white pepper, licorice and milk chocolate on the finish. It is nicely balanced and drinking well - now that the tannins have been smoothened - but it could certainly cellar for several more years.
