Saturday, August 22, 2015 - Going from strength to strength, 1988 Yquem continues to pick up more nuance and darker complexity. Light copper in color, from 375, this is a beauty. Soaring from the glass are aromas of caramel, botrytis, crème brulee, orange rind, honey, and lush apricot. The palate follows suit with even more intensity, and adding a multitude of tea choices to complement the fruit. A lithe, acidic lift cuts through everything. As with any fine Sauternes, I vehemently recommend opening this at least 24 hours in advance, no matter the format. The difference is profound. 99 Pts
