Sunday, October 2, 2016 - Decanted and tried immediately. Color is deep ruby with some bricking; nose was highly aromatic while decanting, highly aromatic in the glass with cherry, blackcurrant, cedar, slight smoke, excellent complexity; palate is full bodied, rich smooth texture, plenty of red fruit throughout, medium balanced acidity, alcohol is very balanced and in check (would have guessed a classic 13.5% and the label says 13%), starting to develop some velvety chocolate, but overall less complex and persistent than the nose; medium finish. The nose has excellent complexity and depth along with freshness, and the palate is more about elegance, balance, and crispness. From my experience with this chateau (98, 99, 03 mostly), they are a very consistent St. Emilion with superb fruit, excellent depth, and though they are seen as a more modern producer, they are not overripe nor extracted. Even the 03 is wonderfully restrained. The most consistent right bank I have found, this will drink well now and for the next 5+ years, and a bit more persistence or complexity in the palate would elevate this further. 93-94
2 hours decanting: Drinking well, but not better than when first opened. Put back into cleaned bottle.
7 hours after opening, 5 of that in bottle: Lost a bit of freshness that made it so charming on first opening. These are ready to go now and will likely not improve with additional aging.
