Tuesday, December 20, 2016 - Beautiful, big, ripe fruit driven wine, with some tertiary notes just starting to develop. Excellent concentration of flavors, very fine and nicely integrated tannins, but while there is a good degree of complexity, it was missing a bit of a wow factor that I usually get from Saxum. As this warmed up, the alcohol started to become much more apparent (we chilled it a bit before diving in for seconds), which was the closest thing to a flaw. This is entering a nice drinking window of early maturity. My somewhat tame response to this is due in large part to it being totally outclassed by the 2000 Pierre Usseglio Mon Aieul that it was served with, which was spectacular. Objectively, this is an outstanding wine, but it has a big reputation to live up to and it ran into a near perfect bottle.
