Wednesday, February 6, 2008 - Followed over two nights. On night one, there was a good dose of funk on the nose - a kind of damp earth and sticks element that I found to be the most enjoyable part of the wine. That funk never fully went away, though it did mostly recede on night two to reveal some sweet, black cherry cola. The palate presence and flavors stayed fairly consistent between the two nights. Medium in weight, with dark strawberry and black cherry profiles. Both fruit components are candied. There is some gripping heat that fights with sweet fruit as it goes down the throat.
I am having trouble with this one. I can't say I found a lot of Rosella's character here, and in general, have not found the Loring wines I have had to be expressive of their origin. That said, they are consistent in their demeanor, and have earned several accolades from many with better palates than I. Perhaps I am just looking at these wines in the wrong light, but at the end of the day, they don't ring for me.
