Friday, February 22, 2008 - The last wine in our cellar from our first trip to Burgundy, opened for OTBN (22/02/08).

An initially closed nose that didn't offer up much: sour cherry, hint of earth, a touch of toast, and a surprising amount of heat (surprising as it's only 13% alcohol).

First sip was pretty one-dimensional, some red fruits and a rather dusty finish.

Fortunately, the wine continued to evolve in the glass, eventually blossoming with more earth and stronger red fruits. At about the 90 minute mark, the nose was completely dominated by tobacco leaf and red currants. Nearly 3 hours in there was an emerging sweetness to the bouquet - raspberries, flowers, cherry pie.

This wine just got better as the night went on, becoming more nuanced and more complex. Had nice length, good mouthfeel and nice balance. I wish we'd brought back more...
