Sunday, May 21, 2017 - Couldn't believe I still had a bottle of this hiding in the cellar; need to reorganize things in there! Opened with some trepidation considering my last unpleasant note but pleased to find a much better wine than before. I'd have to say there was considerable bottle variation at Neyers for this wine.

Color: medium-deep ruby core -> full garnet/brick rim. Complex bouquet of kalamata olives, leather, road tar, meat and a touch of black pepper; really pretty classic Cali Syrah nose. Soft, sweet black fruits in the mouth; olives, earth and underbrush but a little too berryish to my mind. Still a slight green/astringent element here but much, much less than that last bottle from '12. Reasonable medium-length finish that is still showing some nice fruit. This is so much better than before; anybody having any left it's time to drink and good luck to you in which side of the bottle variation line you fall.
