Saturday, March 8, 2008 - At Nicolas, drank with great beef with Bordelais sauce. Beautiful Zwiesel 1824 Bordeaux stems. Good wine, but very young, slightly closed even after a 3 hour decant. Dark, inly colour, great nose of almomst new-worldly sweet blackcurrants (like the yellow Hacks sweets), but mingled with very Bordeaux leather, forest floor and tobacco leaf. E got a little mintiness. Quite a bit of lurking oak on the edges as well. Palate was a lot more subdued, with rather secondary flavours, like tobacco, cedar wood and spice. Grippy tannins and decent finish. Rather good balance and structure, as you would expect from a class St Estephe. Went lovely with my beef and E's red lamb.
