Monday, August 7, 2017 - Very drinkable, smooth, a great light Cabernet. Maybe a little past prime. Will drink remaining bottles in the near future.

8/10/2017 8:13:00 PM - It is by no means past prime in my experience. Please, please try next time to decant the bottle and let it breathe for at least 2-3 hours, longer if possible. Trust me you will be amazed at the difference, I have been drinking Ch.Montelena since the 1974 vintage. Check out my notes on this wine from April and Montelena Estate Cabs in general. They must get lots of air, without which you will always think they are over the hill. Even the '74 a few years ago needed several hours to breathe and it was amazing. Had the '78 2 weeks ago and it was limpid in the first hour but sang later, please check out my notes. This is what "old school" Cali Cab is all about, but the patience will be rewarded! Cheers!!
