Tuesday, October 11, 2005 - Castas Portuguesas (Grapes of Portugal)
This is my first Brazilian wine. Color is very deep red dark and obscure. Chocolate/wood nose, with earth and fruit though overall very muted. In the mouth this wine is medium to heavey with a strong acid streak down the middle and light tannins on the finish. I really don't know much about this wine or it's region, but first guess is that it came from a cooler climate. Cherry, currant, black pepper, light wood, and a mineral finish make up the palate. Very strange, without the body to support the acid, though the fruit is very clean and tasty. In the end this wine seems a bit out of balance.alt=2.5
