Saturday, March 29, 2008 - Tried this wine with thirtyoneknots...a little more impressed with it then he was. Fabulous nose when opened, rich cassis with some damson (at last a chance to use 'damson'). Tried after roughly an hour and for a few hours more. Elegant, but solid (yup...its a Lynch-Bages alright). I have always been struck by the consistency of LB, and once again, a classic representation of what Pauillac should be, at least at a minimum. It took an oddly long time for the trademark cedar and pencil-box characteristics to emerge, but emerge they did. Definite sense that this wine was nowhere near at its peak, which is not surprising. Yet another wine once considered "second" in the estimation of many that has seen its stock rise to the point where it is climbing into ominous price ranges like so many Bordeauxs. If you want to explain Pauillac to a newbie, do it with Lynch-Bages.
