Sunday, March 18, 2007 - The cork disintegrated on opening, and had to be pushed through. The bottle was then decanted. Tawny core with a brick-orange rim. Lovely, mature nose - slightly sweet. Tobacco and leather, with notes of cedar, strawberry and violets. Very light on palate, but there is still surprising tannin and vibrant acidity. After opening up, it takes on a far more classic Bordeaux character. Oak and muted blackcurrant leaf on the nose, with a subtle hint of very good dark chocolate and mint. Rich but restrained blackcurrant on the palate. Strong tannin and very fresh acid. Not a very long finish, but well balanced. Slight sweetness on the finish. For a 26-year old wine, this really was very impressive and very, very enjoyable.
