92 Points

Wednesday, April 9, 2008 - Right out of the bottle: Deep dark purple in the glass. On the nose scorched earth, wood smoke, blackberries a little more shut down than last time. Taste is spicy with some alcohol but balanced. Elegant for such a big wine. Going into that bitter chocolate edge that experienced last time. Needs some serious decanting.

Decanted overnight: Great rich opaque dark purple in the glass. Nose of black fruits, some licorice, cedar/cigar box and some sweet vanilla. Nose much more closed down thn last time. Spicey!. The tannins are big and chewey. Still a little bitterness. The fruit is buried beneath tannins/spice and some heat. This wine has an initial elegance and drinkability to it but after decanting it shows how big it really is. It's obvious that this is a concentrated cabernet with great structure and excellent complexity but it needs 2-3 more years of bottle age to start strutting IMHO. The heat is a little high right now. 92-93+Pts on potential. I'd repurchase and lay it down for a few years.
