Sunday, January 7, 2018 - Pleased to be trying this again after three years. Clear, medium ruby, with garnet hues on the rim. The nose is clean, developing, medium (+) in intensity, with ripe red cherry, black plum, black pepper, tar, mediterranean herbs, savory spices and a hint of Christmas fruitcake -like mix of vanilla, dried fruit and baking spices. The palate is dry, but with plenty of fruit. The tannins are still medium to medium (+), polished but still astringent. The acidity is medium, the alcohol is medium (+) to high (14%). This wine is medium (+) bodied, with medium (+) flavor intensity and a medium long, pleasantly bitter, finish of black licorice. This is first and foremost a great food wine. It is still drinking well and is probably at its peak. Still, it should continue to be fine for several more years. This is a consistent, killer value in the $13-$18 price range. 89+
