Sunday, February 18, 2018 - Benvenuto Brunello 2018, Montalcino centro; 2/16/2018-2/19/2018 (Montalcino): (Benvenuto Brunello, 2018, Montalcino) Gorgeous. Brick red>ruby. Powerfully perfumed, the nose is open and giving already. This is just beautiful, with a continuous cascade of red fruits, warm spice, soil and forest/mushrooms. The entry is bigger than expected, the middle is warm, generous, yet structured; this is one heck of a Rosso wine. So much potential, still, probably even better with just one more year of integration. A true baby Brunello if there is such a thing. Impressive length and depth. 14,5% abv., drink 2019 thru 2028. highly recommended

1/10/2019 5:54:00 PM - I bought three from the LWS a few weeks ago and opened one tonight. Very nice. A little tannic right now, but great flavor and paired well with spaghetti. I will be picking up some more.

1/10/2019 6:53:00 PM - Paul, glad to see you picked some up. It's a terrific wine, and a great value. If you grab several more, be sure to squirrel some away for 5-8 years, they (can) become BDX-like in certain instances.

Coincidentally, today I booked the first weeks of my 3-month journey, beginning at the Chianti Classico anteprima, 9-12 Feb., in Firenze (like the BDX UGC, etc), and the following week is the Benvenuto Brunello (will be tough, with the 14 vintage of BdM, and the 17s of Rosso di Montalcino). I'll spend a month in Tuscany visiting and tasting as much as possible before moving to ProWein in Dusseldorf. I'll finish with VinItaly-Verona in April, then my wife is planning to join me for my last 2 weeks there with visits to Sudtirol, Venice, Slovenia, and Croatia. I should be back home by 15 May. I'm already tired.

1/11/2019 4:22:00 AM - That sounds like a great trip, Tim. I was actually planning to email you this week as we just booked our trip to northern Italy for September. I need to get some winery recommendations from you for the areas we will be in.
