1982 Stony Hill Gewürztraminer

Community Tasting Note

Likes this wine:

Saturday, September 1, 2018 - At tasting. Brief note. Best white of the tasting and certainly contender for WOTN among all the great reds on the table. Pours a light golden straw in the glass. Blind I would've thought this was no more than 6-8 years old. Nose too is exceedingly fresh and painfully intense with rich notes of mango puree, baked pears, guava, pineapple, searing tart lemon, a plethora of german baking spice and fine powdery minerals. Midpalate foreshadows the finish as it builds up layers of tropical fruits in tandem with the citrus and minerals with great intensity and life. This was crystalline and round at the same time with finesse on the extremely long finish that just makes your eyes roll into the back of your head. A near religious experience.

9/19/2018 8:54:00 PM - I had just enough brain-matter pickled from the tasting to keep my thoughts and memories preserved lol. In all seriousness though I jotted down my recollections and thoughts over the couple days following the tasting. I'm lucky to have a very good taste memory and to be able to recall every aspect about a wine I drank which is how I've been getting much better at double blind tasting btw
