Sunday, September 30, 2018 - This vintage is a great example of aged versus young wine. It is a joy to drink and explore even if you prefer younger or fresher wine like I tend too.

Opened and decanted for an hour. I did not decant longer because of its age. After 15 years in the bottle it has been exposed to some oxygen over time so giving it a lot more will only increase its downward timeline.

Still a dark purple in the center but nice bricking along its watery edge. Aroma's of black fruit with prune, dried herb and perhaps raisin.

On the palate this is well balanced, the tannin's are pretty resolved, the Alcohol is tame and the acids are in balance with the above. Flavors of prune, black fruits and dried herb make-up the majority of the taste. You can taste the layers and enjoying this wine with and without food was amazing. The flavor profile changed with the additional of fats or acids from food which is why I loved tasting this guy!

Overall I tend to enjoy younger or fresher wines but this aged beautifully and its complex layers are still present albeit getting dimmer. This was my 5th bottle and my last but I really enjoyed the years of drinking pleasure this gave me.

Its wine like this that makes the journey in wine so exciting to me!

In my opinion, if you have some drink them up you will not be disappointed. This is a well made quality wine that has entered the twilight year and does not have much more to give.

Cheers
