95 Points

Sunday, November 25, 2018 - Purchased at release from magnum and stored in a passive cellar, this Mondavi reserve from the well structured 2001 vintage is drinking beautifully right now. Pnp with the remainder drank from decanter over the following hour.

Generous nose of red fruit and cigar box, followed by a complex and well integrated wine that is really at its apex right now. Delicious, long finish, with soft tannins that are just grippy enough to finish strong. I don’t think you would mistake this wine for anything other than Napa, but this is definitely a textbook example of a classic wine from a great producer in a great vintage.

I don’t believe this wine will improve but based on the depth of the fruit and the remaining tannins I’d expect this wine to hold for another 3-5 years.
