1999 Château Palmer

Saturday, January 5, 2019 - A real triumph of the '99 vintage. Nothing underripe or past peak about this wine. Dark cherry color fading to a pale rim. On the nose, lots of cassis and plum, along with cedar, eucalyptus, and even a hint of sweet barbecue smoke. Very slightly floral. Has that luxurious Palmer mouthfeel, with lush, well-integrated tannins along the cheeks. On the palate, more cassis and plum, along with some blackberry and that hint of smoke. Long finish, even if slightly drying. This is the wine to convert critics of the '99 vintage. Ready to go now but with nearly ten years of continued life ahead of it. If drinking now, it's ready straight out of the bottle.
