Thursday, May 23, 2019 - 2016 CdP (and some other wines over dinner) (NY Racquet and Tennis Club): I went back to this one a few times during the night since it did reasonably well in the point scoring and I felt like I had to be missing something. Didn't ever really get interesting for me though. This wine is muted. It's tannin and a bit of chalkiness. Young for sure. But even trying to poke through I didn't sense much coming. Not the fruit that CdP is so known for and not some of the more savory or different notes. For me, just didn't really do it.

5/25/2019 1:07:00 PM - What an incredible tasting - really almost all of the wines I would consider buying from a vintage I think will turn out to be marvelous for CdP.

I have had probably half of these wines so far, and had identical impressions on Marcoux, & Donjon (both delicious with bright pure fruit), Beaucastel (tasty but perhaps the bottle that time will serve the best). I liked Pegau and Chante Le Merle a bit more than you seemed to have (Pegau has less Brett than in past vintages, and I thought Le Merle mirrored the pure ripe red profile found in Donjon, Marcoux).

I am also convinced that at this level (things like da Capo excluded) Clos Des Papes is as good as it gets in Chateauneuf. Thanks so much for sharing your articulate notes.
