Sunday, July 21, 2019 - This bottle is pushing twenty years old and I believe it saw poor storage conditions early in life. The cork showed a vein of seepage but was extracted with ease. There is some bricking at the rim but the core is still a deep dark ruby. This style is so foreign in the current context of California Cabernet, certainly old world in style with a complex, refreshing, crunchy style. Gorgeous aromas of blackberries, plums, forest floor, sandalwood, and wet stones. The palate builds in density with extended air, showing dark fruit, firm acidity, and sweet supple tannins. This bottle showed beautifully considering the provenance and I think this wine has plenty of life left, consider aging another 5-10 years.
