NY just opened up the opportunity for me to purchase SOME international NW wines, and a bottle of Coni's Malbec was among the first to find its way into my basket. I let it hang around for a month or so, acclimating to my NY cellar.
I almost always give red wines an hour or more airtime prior to sipping with dinner. (newbies – please be sure to read description and suggestions – easy to find now on the wine’s page) And I also take a slug (oops, sip) as soon as I uncork – just to get a first impression. For this Malbec: DRY, acidic?, charcoal, earthy
First evening paired with lamb chop, corn, and caprese – still a bit drier than my preference, moderate tannin, tart cherry.
Second evening – BBQ burger and salad – slightly tart, tobacco, charcoal - smooth and silky
Third and last evening (six days after opening), paired with venison roast rollup with spinach, sautéed shrooms and TJ’s Unexpected Cheddar – less tart, more dark but not sweet fruit (cherry, blackberry?), tobacco, a bit of acid, low tannin, smooth and silky.
Overall, Coni’s Malbec is still drier than I prefer, but smooth and pleasant. Thank you, Coni, for creating this tasty Malbec for us!
