Friday, October 11, 2019 - Great example of a highly powerful wine that stops short of excess- friendly and calm, despite the very high ABV. Beautiful dark purple fruit, blackberry pie (complete with crust!) plus plenty of cedar, stony minerals, violets and a velour-like texture from gentle tannin. Makes me think of amethyst- beautiful, purple, mineral, dense, found in a forest, but polished and sparking with light.
Maybe it could use 10% more acidity, but it's definitely there. Except for a very tiny high toned pepper note right at the front of the nose, for better or worse I think this could be mistaken for a high-quality Napa cab, especially with the cedary oak accent.
