Thursday, October 9, 2008 - Very Impressive! Classically styled. This wine reminds me of the old west. The nose is slow to come around but very complex and quixotic (pertaining to romantic qualities). With coaxing the wine reveals scents of smoke, beef, and leather with sweet red fruits –cherries and red grenadine. The tannins have a very dusty feel- a bit chalky. It is no doubt smooth and shows excellent balance. Right now the merlot in wine is really dominating the palate with its lush feel. If this wine can hold itself together for another 15 years to let the secondary nuances gain power it will be approaching extraordinary. I know this not a first growth and it is what it is, but I really enjoyed it and think for the vintage it is underrated and spectacular. –back up the truck.
