Sunday, April 19, 2020 - Blackberry is the best way to describe the color. Just a darker ruby, as CA Pinots tend to go. The fruit-forward nose is blackberry and cherry, with some spice, white pepper and a floral note.
The palate is dark cherry and boysenberry up front with mushroom, spice and lavender. The oak comes in on the back in a complementary way, with vanilla and caramel. I also find the acid in very good balance to the alcohol, filling out the body. The finish is long and lingering--a minute plus.
This bottle is nicely resolved, but has years of life left. It was perfect with mushroom and asparagus risotto.
Day 3: Anise, mushroom, toast, honeysuckle and black fruit on the nose. More cola and chocolate on the palate. Superb.
