Thursday, June 4, 2020 - Another Grüner
Just the other day I reviewed a Grüner Veltliner from Loimer, “Grocery Store Wine – A New Era?” I liked the wine and Grüner is a favorite of mine. Then I get this offer for another Grüner, what am I to do? Buy it of course.
While the Loimer was from Kamptal, Austria this one was from Wagram. Interestingly, the two regions are relative neighbors; both in the Northeast area of Austria, but both capable of producing some wonderful wines. This time it’s the
Leth Reid Steinagrund Grüner Veltliner 2017
While I enjoyed the Loimer, I have to give a slight nudge to the Leth, it had a touch more fruit note giving it a certain roundness and drinkability sans food, as well as the traditional minerality, acidity and that white pepper spiciness on the finish. At right around the same price, either is a welcome addition to the Summer months ahead. For the patio, go for Leth, something a little more food-friendly, try the Loimer. Either way, you can’t go wrong.
Cheers
